No Signal runs a compact AI model directly on your iPhone โ no server connection needed. The survival knowledge base is stored locally on your device, and the AI retrieves relevant information using a technique called RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation). GPS is a hardware feature of your phone that works independently of cell service. You just need to download your map regions while you have WiFi before heading out.
Yes! GPS is a satellite-based system built into every iPhone. It works by receiving signals from satellites in orbit โ it doesn't need cell towers or internet. Your phone always knows where you are. The problem is that most map apps need internet to load the map tiles. No Signal solves this by letting you download topographic maps before your trip.
Every answer is sourced from authoritative references: the US Army Survival Manual (FM 21-76), FEMA emergency guidelines, WHO medical protocols, and Red Cross first aid procedures. The AI doesn't generate creative answers โ it retrieves and presents verified information, always with source citations so you can trust what you're reading.
The core app with AI model and knowledge base requires approximately 2-3 GB. Map downloads vary by region โ a typical national park area is 100-500 MB. We recommend downloading only the regions you need for your trip to save space.
No Signal requires iPhone 12 or later running iOS 17+. The on-device AI model needs the Neural Engine found in A14 Bionic chips and newer to run efficiently. Newer models will provide faster response times.
We're focused on making the best possible iOS experience first. Android is on our roadmap, but we don't have a timeline yet. Sign up for updates and we'll let you know when it's in development.
Completely. No Signal never connects to the internet during use. There are no analytics, no tracking, no accounts, and no data collection of any kind. Your location data, questions, and usage never leave your device. We literally can't see what you do with the app โ and that's by design.
